ORIGIN
The goal of this one-week group project was to analyze a given piece of timber and create a physical artifact. With the built origins of our wood being from an air hanger in Lethbridge AB, and its harvesting location being from Squamish BC, it had been determined that our goal was to bring the story of the wood to life. The first action was to disassemble the wood along its naturally occurring splits. We then scanned the wood and used a CNC machine to carve the topographic maps of Lethbridge and Squamish into the created voids. Using the existing split rings, we reassembled the wood. The result was the original air hanger structural beam with the topographic maps revealed within.
